Great Resumes Fast » Resume Writing Tips » Resume Branding 101: The Rule of Difference

If I were to say Tiger Woods you would immediately think what? Golf. If I were to say Tom Brady you would say football. What about McDonalds? You don’t go to McDonalds because it reminds you of Subway and you definitely don’t go to Subway because it reminds you of McDonalds. What is my point here? You know the difference. You know what makes each one of these people and places different and it provokes an image in  your head.

When you say your own name what comes to mind? What makes you different and what are you known for? If you can’t think of something specific then you haven’t branded yourself or made a niche for yourself yet. The first step to branding your resume, yourself and your job search is to think about what makes you different, unique, and valuable! What do you offer that no one else can?

Take this information and use it to your advantage and brand yourself!

About the author

Jessica Hernandez, President, CEO & Founder of Great Resumes Fast

Hi, I’m Jessica. I started this company back in 2008 after more than a decade directing hiring practices at Fortune 500 companies.

What started as a side hustle (before that was even a word!) helping friends of friends with their resumes has now grown into a company that serves hundreds of happy clients a year. But the personal touch? I’ve kept that.

You might have seen me featured as a resume expert in publications like Forbes, Fast Company, and Fortune. And in 2020, I was honored to be named as a LinkedIn Top Voice of the year!

I’m so glad you’re here, and I can’t wait to help you find your next perfect-fit position!
