How LinkedIn’s Newest Features Capture the Hiring Manager’s Attention
Placement in search results is paramount to being located on LinkedIn. Landing on the first page of the search results for a certain industry, position, or expertise is ideal and will most likely get your profile reviewed by whoever is conducting the search. So what are some ways you can optimize your profile to place higher in the search results?
First, let me start by saying on your profile homepage you can see how many times you’ve appeared in recent searches; this is a good starting point to determine whether the changes you’re making are working. Second, LinkedIn has some great new features that, when implemented correctly, can increase your overall ranking in the search results.
Three of my favorite new features include adding a skills section, publications section, and certifications section to your profile. The skills section is by far my favorite because you can insert specific keywords relevant to your career field and then input your years of experience and level of expertise. For example:
Executive Resume Writer – Advanced – 12 Years’ Experience
I highly recommend—if you haven’t added the skills section to your profile—that as soon as you’re done reading this article you get on LinkedIn and add it! It’s another great way to keyword optimize your profile.
Adding a publications and certifications section to your profile cements your expertise. The great thing about the publications section is you don’t just list where you’ve been published—you can also link to it. So those reviewing your profile can see exactly what you’ve written that has been published. The certifications section is an asset to you as well; considering some employers will be looking for job seekers with specific credentials, this will certainly answer their questions and position you as a qualified candidate.
Let me just add this point—branded profiles land interviews. We had a client just this week who was called for an interview on the same day he posted his brand-driven profile that we developed for him. If that doesn’t speak to the success of a branded LinkedIn profile, then I don’t know what does.
